VONCILLE  SHIPLEY
Welcome to my house

Our niece, Hillary Shipley painted this view of a corner of our den, a painting her teacher named Granma's House. It won the Oklahoma House District 4 contest for high school students in 2006 and was exhibited in the Cannon Tunnel in Washington, D. C.  for one year. All the winners from every Congressional district in the United States have the opportunity to have their work displayed in the nation's Capitol.
So, welcome to my house. Come in, have a seat, kick back, and relax with a good book. Try one of mine.

This Raw, Red Land
From fifth grade on, I wanted to write and publish stories. Through the years, one of those stories kept nagging me to put it on paper. Whole scenes appeared in my head and dialogue sounded in my ears. An imaginary farm family that settled in Chickasaw Nation shortly before Oklahoma became a state in 1907 begged me to recount its struggles and achievements, its joys and sorrows, its tragedies and triumphs.

This Raw, Red Land begins the narrative of the Conover family and its neighbors. Set in South Central Oklahoma shortly before statehood and continuing into 1908, it "tells it like it was" honestly depicting the mores of the period, the clothing, the language and idioms, and the give and take of family life.

This Raw, Red Land focuses on the entire Conover family, Matt and Lillie and their eight children . It covers an intense period of change in the lives of the young adult members of the family, ending with some of their issues unsolved. begins where the first story ends and centers on two of the sons and the women in their lives. In both books, neighbors and community activities play an active part.I wanted to portray the hardships and benefits of life in a pioneering rural setting. As the characters make choices, whether good or bad, and live with the results, the reader can see that only outward circumstances have changed. I hope that today's audience can benefit from their mistakes.

Left for Dead begins a new series featuring new characters in a different setting. The LaClede family lives in southwestern Missouri and consists of Howard, businessman; Trish, stay-at-home mom; Nicole, college student; and two married children, their spouses and children.

I hope you like them and want to see how this family faces sudden tragedy and upheaval because of the mystery surrounding the heartbreaking circumstances.
